GRAND RAPIDS - Zeeland West(7-2) and Grand Rapids Christian(8-1) have met twice before Friday night's game at Christian, both times times were in the playoffs. In 2012 the Eagles won 68-44, the Dux won the following year 48-35. Friday nights game would be back and forth all night long.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead on a 65 yard scoring run by Matt Ellis. Zeeland West responded with a Drake Fincannon score and two point conversion to take an 8-7 lead.
Isaac Dykema's 58 yard touchdown pass to Darius Barfield gave Christian the lead back. Fincannon's second score gave the Dux the lead back 16-13.
Christian regained the lead on their third long score of the night as Ellis scored again, this time from 62 yards out. That gave Christian a 20-16 halftime lead.
Zeeland West opened the second half with a nearly 10 minute drive that ended with a Hunter Blauwkamp TD. That was the only scoring of the third as Zeeland West entered the fourth with a 24-20 lead. The teams would trade scores again with Dykema would score for the Eagles. Fincannon's third touchdown of the night gave Zeeland West the lead as time wound down.
Dykema found Will Peterson over the middle with 20 seconds left for the game winning score as Christian advances with a 35-32 win.
