EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Muskegon Western Michigan Christian coach Jim Goorman didn't have high expectations going into this season.

Even though the Warriors had won the Class D title, Goorman had to replace his entire starting lineup.

"I went into the season hoping to get to 10 wins, because that would mean a .500 season," he said. "Then we got to 11 and 12 and suddenly we'd won 20 of 21."

The run finished Saturday as the Warriors (24-4) won their second straight championship and third in 10 years with a 62-61 victory over Cedarville (25-2). They beat Detroit City in 1999 and 2008, both times by one point.

"In 1998, I had brown hair, so you can see what this has done to me," joked the silver-haired Goorman. "It's been an incredible run for this school."

Evan Bruinsma, whose brother hit the winning shot last season, led the Warriors with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

"This is sweeter than last year, because I'm a starter now and I played a lot more minutes," he said. "But winning back-to-back is great."

Western Michigan Christian held a 49-47 advantage going into the fourth. The Trojans struggled with their trademark 3-pointers in the quarter, allowing the Warriors to build a 58-53 lead with 2:30 left.
