Lake Hawks start fourth season

Lake Hawks Interview

The West Michigan Lake Hawks, West Michigan's ABA team, kicked off another season on Sunday with a home game at Reeths-Puffer high school against the Oakland County Cowboys.

The Hawks are in their fourth season in the league and have found success quickly, winning back to back North Central Division champions. They hope to repeat as champs once again this season, but more importantly they hope to continue to have a positive impact on the city of Muskegon.

General Manager Andre Johnson says that will always be the teams main goal.

"We want to give you a professional level of basketball but at the same time try to give back to the community through our student athletes to let them know there's dreams that you can actually accomplish through education and we're trying to do that trough basketball."

And while this might no be Dr. J's ABA there's still shades of the old league in this new model.

"It's a pretty high scoring game, fast paced, lots of dunking," Johnson said. "So it's pretty exciting and we try to get the crowd involved as much as possible."

The season stretches from November 6th until March 5th and for more information on the team you can check out LakeHawksBasketball.com
