Extra innings turns double header into triple header for Whitecaps opener

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Baseball season is finally underway in west Michigan.

After postponing Thursday’s home opener because of snow and cold, the West Michigan Whitecaps played a double header Friday evening.  It was still chilly, but coats, hats, gloves and blankets kept the fans comfortable and happy to be watching baseball again.

“It was great,” said fan Diane Sloan.  “It was freezing cold but it was really great.  The game was awesome.”

“Opening day is one of the things we do,” said fan Keith Moore.

“Pick me up and we head straight from the office,” confirmed his fiancé Chris Martin. “It’s all good.”

The second game of the double header Friday went into extra innings. Fans who stayed until the end watched what amounted to more than a triple header of baseball.  The Whitecaps are away until their next home game next Thursday.
