With the return of Anthony Mantha, the Griffins roster is now complete.
After having numerous players camp with the Red Wings for the past few weeks, Todd Nelson finally has his full allotment of players to get ready for Friday's opener against the Chicago Wolves.
Mantha was the last cut of training camp for the Red Wings as they debated what would be best for him--getting major minutes every game in Grand Rapids or seeing limited minutes on a third or fourth line in Detroit. Ken Holland, Jeff Blashill and Nelson all agree that Mantha needs to improve his consistency to be more effective this season, in the meantime he says he's not angry he was sent down, instead he's focusing on his improvement.
"They wanted me to put some weight on this summer, that's what I did," Mantha said. "I worked hard in the gym, on the ice, I did everything I could do to earn a spot. I'm not far from the reality right now and I just need to keep working. Obviously there's a battle I need to keep working on, being competitive every night, just the little details they want me to push and get better at."
Defenseman Nathan Paetsch has been named the new Griffins captain now that Jeff Hoggan is no longer with the team. Brian Lashoff, Matthew Ford, and Ben Street are the alternate captains.
