West Michigan Whitecaps win playoff game on walk-off in 11th

Whitecaps one win from advancing

COMSTOCK PARK, MICH. (AP) - Jose Zambrano hit a walk-off single with two outs in the 11th inning, as the West Michigan Whitecaps defeated the South Bend Cubs, 3-2, on Wednesday.

David Gonzalez scored the game-winning run after he led off the inning with a single and advanced to third on a balk.

The Whitecaps tied the game 2-2 when Will Maddox hit an RBI single, scoring Zambrano in the fifth.

The Whitecaps had four relievers combine to throw 5 2/3 scoreless innings in the victory. Drew Smith (2-2) got the win with a scoreless inning in relief while Jared Cheek (2-1) took the loss in the Midwest League game.

The Whitecaps now lead the best-of-three first round playoff series, 1-0. Game 2 is tonight in South Bend.
