Of course it would fail.
The Pontiac Silverdome was set to begin a yearlong demolition process Sunday morning in front of onlookers around the stadium, but the first detonation failed to weaken the support beams and bring down the upper section.
So all that anticipation was for nothing (well, for now). On Twitter, people couldn't help themselves but make the connection between this failure and the run of Detroit Lions football fans experienced at the Silverdome from 1975-2001, which featured just one playoff victory.
Here's a snapshot of the best and funniest reactions:

The Pontiac Silverdome did not implode this morning. I guess the building is not used to implosion on a Sunday until 1 pm.— Terry Foster (@TerryFoster971) December 3, 2017
Watching the Lions Implode the Pontiac Silverdome, and it didn't even work! It was a dud, just like many of the Lions performances there.— Joel H (@buzzlightyer2) December 3, 2017

My god. They tried to implode the Pontiac Silverdome just now. They explosions went off, and the old girl just stood there, smiled, and said, “Really?” #silverdome— Josh Mackey (@JMackey1981) December 3, 2017
Greatest thing ever right now. The Silverdome won't go down. The way we do things around here, I can't wait for the Palace implosion in 2037.— Matt Dery (@DerySpeaks) December 3, 2017
They tried to implode the Pontiac Silverdome. It didn't work, like most game plans in there on Sundays. https://t.co/lqHurKlRhS— Dan Wetzel (@DanWetzel) December 3, 2017
