Detroit Red Wings center Andreas Athanasiou will miss at least one game after getting hurt Thursday.
Athanasiou suffered a lower-body injury when he was hit by Nikita Tryamkin during the first period of the 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks at Joe Louis Arena..
Wings general manager Ken Holland told the Free Press that Athanasiou is “out for Saturday” when the Wings play at Montreal.
Beyond that, Holland said more about Athanasiou’s injury would be known Friday.
The Wings have a spare forward available in Drew Miller, but if Athanasiou is out longer, the Wings could call up Anthony Mantha, who has eight goals and two assists in 10 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins. His first NHL goal came at Montreal last season.
Athanasiou is one of the fastest skaters on the team. He scored twice Tuesday at Philadelphia (the second time in the shootout, which does not count as a personal statistic) and has four goals and one assist in 12 games.
