Grand Rapids Griffins season opener to draw huge crowds

Meghan Bunchman talks with team representatives from the Grand Rapids Griffins about what to expect from this year's team.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - It looks to be another sold out crowd as the Grand Rapids Griffins kick off its season opener Friday at Van Andel Arena.

“There are only about 1,000 tickets left,” said Randy Cleves, the team’s public relations senior director.

The puck will drop at 7 p.m. Oct. 14, as the Griffins face off against the Chicago Wolves.

There are a lot of veteran players who will return this year. On Wednesday, the team named Nathan Paetsch as its new captain.

“You want to bring in some guys that can help those young guys develop quicker,” said Ben Simon, assistant coach. He added the team will have a healthy mix of experienced and new talent.

The team's full schedule and ticket information can be found at griffinshockey.com.
