Mitch Callahan was called up up Wednesday from Grand Rapids as the Western Canada part of this road trip continues Friday at Calgary and Saturday at Edmonton. The Wings were off after winning 3-2 in overtime Tuesday against the Canucks.
Callahan, 25, has 14 goals and 36 points in 53 games with the Griffins this season. He is a sandpaper type of player.
He has played one game with the Wings, making his NHL debut on March 25, 2014, at Columbus.
He brings the Wings to 12 forwards, not counting Gustav Nyquist, who has one game left to serve on his suspension. The Wings traded Thomas Vanek to the Florida Panthers on Wednesday,
