Red Wings' captain spills a fan's beer, pays him back

The Detroit Red Wings are having a tough season, but it appears that's not affecting the generosity of their captain.

Henrik Zetterberg accidentally spilled a fan's pint of beer during warm-ups in Ottawa on Tuesday night, banging into the boards and causing the beer, sitting against the glass, to fall to the floor on the other side.

The fan's friend wrote in to the ottawacitizen.com to explain the rest of the story.

“My buddy Mike and I were down against the glass for the warms ups last night in the Red Wings end … he had his beer sitting up against the glass as we were taking pics. When Hank was done stretching, he got up and banged into the boards a couple times.”

“In doing so, Mike’s pint went smashing to the floor. We knocked on the glass to show him what happened as I got a kick out of it. Zetterberg started laughing! A few minutes later, he went over to the bench, grabbed one of his brand new game sticks and autographed it saying: “Sorry! I owe u one! (with his signature.) He skated over and tossed it over the glass to us! How classy is that guy!!! Amazing!”

The Red Wings went on to lose, 2-0, to the Senators.

That was a cool gesture from Zetterberg as the Red Wings whimper to the finish line of their 2016-17 season. A spilled beer is nothing to joke about, but a signed hockey stick is a welcome payback.
