COMSTOCK PARK, MICH. - Anthony Pereira had four hits, while Josh Lester and David Gonzalez recorded three apiece as the West Michigan Whitecaps topped the Lansing Lugnuts 16-1 on Saturday.
Pereira doubled twice and singled twice, scoring four runs. Lester singled three times, scoring a pair of runs while also driving home a couple.
West Michigan had a pair of big innings in the blowout victory, scoring five runs in both the first and eighth innings.
In the first, Sam Machonis hit a two-run single, while Austin Athmann hit a two-run double in the eighth.
West Michigan left-hander Gregory Soto (6-1) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing one run on two hits over six innings. Opposing starter Osman Gutierrez (1-6) took the loss in the Midwest League game after allowing five runs while only recording two outs. Burris Warner pitched three scoreless innings for his first save of the season.
West Michigan took advantage of some erratic Lansing pitching, drawing a season-high 10 walks in its victory.
With the win, West Michigan improved to 7-1 against Lansing this season.
