The Whitecaps second half domination continued as they shutout the Cedar Rapids Kernels 3-0, capping off a three-game sweep.
West Michigan starting pitcher Gregory Soto allowed just three hits over six innings while striking out 11, improving his record to 8-1. Zac Houston pitched the 7th and 8th innings while striking out three and Eduardo Jimenez pitched a perfect 9th inning for his fifth save of the season.
During a Whitecaps double steal in the first inning a throwing error by Kernels catcher Ben Rortvedt allowed Derek Hill to score the first run of the game. Later in the at bat Austin Athmann grounded out to Andre Jernigan but Danny Woodrow scored to make it a 2-0 game.
Cole Bauml brought in another run in the third with an RBI single.
The stellar pitching outing gave the Whitecaps their 18th shutout of the season, tops in the Midwest League.
