WHITE CLOUD, Mich. (WZZM) -- It looks like something you would see in a science fiction movie, but it was actually spotted right here in West Michigan.

Kelsey Kakoczki found a giant moth in her back yard and was able to take a picture of it before it flew away. The moth appears to be about 10 inches wide.

Kelsey uploaded the photo onWZZM 13's Facebook page and we asked a Michigan State University entomologist to identify it.

MSU Professor Ned Walker says it isacecropia moth(http://bit.ly/ws4dY) and is one of a few species of giant silk moths native to North America, butrare in Michigan. Walker called the picture of the cecropia moth "stunning".
