KENT COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM)- An event that raises money for cancer and grief support programs at Gilda's Club Grand Rapis is less than a month away. One of the competitions at LaughFest is the Middle School Showcase. The help students write their best jokes local comedian Allen Trieu headed into the Northern Trails fifth grade classroom Monday.

He says the challenge was to put himself inside the mind of a fifth grader again.

"I think the first kid I asked for a topic, he said I'm writing about a hamster that does karate, which is completely outside my frame of thought. So immediately I was brought back to being a kid and okay, this is how they think," said Trieu.

The students have until March 15th to get their jokes ready. Trieu will perform during the opening night of LaughFest on March 8.
