Grand Rapids (WZZM) - Organizers of a new jazz festival in Grand Rapids are hoping to attract at least 5,000 people in their first year and they're going to promote the event throughout Michigan to try to attract them.

The GRandJazz Fest will take over Rosa Parks Circle on August 18th. It's an all day event that will begin at noon.

Organizers say events like this happen on the east side of Michigan and it was time to do one here.

They say one of the most important aspects, all of the bands are from Michigan and the event is meant to promote local businesses as well.

"We want people to come, spend the day, spend an hour, come and go, check out the local restaurants, the local bars. You know, trying to promote Michigan local," said Audrey Sundstrom, organizer of GrandJazz Fest.

The GRandJazz Fest will be a free event.

Tuesday, the organizers will announce the bands that will perform in the festival as well as other details.

That event will also give people an idea of what to expect in August. It is open to anyone and begins at noon at Rosa Parks Circle.
