COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WZZM) - Author Mitch Albom's play about the life of Ernie Harwell is coming to Grand Rapids.
Hospice of Michigan and Albom himself made the announcement Wednesday morning at Fifth Third Ballpark.
The West Michigan debut of "Ernie" will have a 12-performance run at Wealthy Street Theatre that starts on September 12th with an "Opening Day" performance featuring Albom, Ernie Harwell's son Bill, and other Detroit Tiger alumni.
Harwell was the announcer for the Detroit Tigers for decades. He died in May of 2010 after a 10-month battle with cancer.
"Ernie" debuted in April of 2011 in Detroit. It ends its Detroit run on July 29.
Proceeds from the play will benefit Hospice of Michigan's Open Access Program.
