GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- Grand Rapids residents trying to beat the heat are getting some help from the city. Five water playgrounds opened to the public Wednesday.

Visitors can now enjoy the splash pads at Heartside Park, Joe Taylor Park, Mary Waters Park, Alger Middle School and Gerald R. Ford Middle School. Admission to the playgrounds is free for residents. They are open from 8 a.m. through 8 p.m.

The city will open its swimming pools on July 2.
