GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Communities around the country are celebrating the 29th annual National Night Out Tuesday night.

The Salvation Army's Kroc Center is hosting a free event in conjunction with National Night Out. The event is designed to strengthen police community relations will include fun family activities like sand castle building and a slip 'n slide.

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. with local police and firefighters on hand to talk to the public about crime prevention.

The City of Holland is throwing"A Going Away Party for Crime and Drugs" at Kollen Park from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This is the first year they have held their event in conjunction with National Night Out. Followed by parties in neighborhoods throughout the city from eight until 10.
