FREMONT, Mich. (WZZM) - The food going into Gerber jars for babies will also start producing electricity for the community.
Gerber is one of the contributors to a new biodigester in Fremont. A grand opening was held Wednesday morning.
It's the nation's first large-scale operation to create renewable energy from food. The tanks are filled with produce scraps from restaurants, manufacturers and agriculture facilities. In about 90 days, those ingredients become energy.
The biodigester will employee about 10 people.
