GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - A vigilant neighbor helped the Kent County Sheriff's Department capture the man believed to be responsible for several home invasions.
Deputies arrested Arlen Darren Oakes, 45, during a home invasion on 100th Street SE on Tuesday. A neighbor called 911 after they saw the suspect enter the home. Deputies arrived as the suspect came out of the residence.
Investigators learned from interviewing the suspect that he was responsible for several other home invasions in southern Kent County. He identified as many as 20 homes that he had burglarized since March. He would target jewelry and cash and some of the jewelry has been recovered, but investigators say much of the property has been sold or traded already.
Oakes is also on parole and is being held on a parole charge as well.
