KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM)- Kalamazoo County is dealing with a sharp increase in the number of norovirus cases.

The illnesses have appeared in nursing homes, schools, and other places in the community. Portage Elementary School closed on Friday because of the number of illnesses.

Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps and sometimes a low grade fever. These symptoms last up to 72 hours and will usually go away without treatment.
