GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- More than 500 West Michigan families in need will be able to eat well on Thanksgiving thanks to a local outreach group.
Mel Trotter Ministries gave away special Thanksgiving food boxes to families that registered to receive them.
Organizers say the people who register for the meals come from a variety of backgrounds.
"Some of them lost their jobs, some of them are elderly, some of them are from out of the country, so this might be the only meal for Thanksgiving," says Daphne Johnson from Mel Trotter Ministries. "It's a good thing we're doing here."
The boxes were given away at each of the Mel Trotter thrift stores in Belding, Grand Rapids, Middleville, Jenison, and Sparta.
