ROCKFORD, Mich. (WZZM)-A winter attraction is celebrating its golden anniversary with help from Mother Nature.

Snow came just in time for Saturday night's throwback half-pipe contest at Pando Winter Sports Park in Rockford. Snowboarders from Indiana, Ohio and across Michigan came out for the competition, which organizers named "Occupy Pando".

"We've always kind of been the underground resort around here and maintained a really grassroots status, so that kind of jibed with the Occupy movement," explained event coordinator Zeppelin Zeerip.

Park employees say Pando is unique because of the unusual shape of its half-pipe. But the backdrop didn't all come naturally.

"As you can see, we put a lot of man hours into it over the last week. I've put in over 100 hours myself, and I have a full park crew that's been working hard, doing everything they can every day, sun up to sun down, and then some," said terrain director Andy Smith.

This is the first year for Occupy Pando. Organizers hope to hold the contest again next year.
