PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- A Zeeland man has been charged in the fatal shooting of an Ottawa County couple more than 25 years ago. Ryan Mark Wyngarden, 50, was arrested Friday and charged Monday in the murders of Rick and Gail Brink in November 1987.
Ryan Wyngarden is the brother of one of the victims, Gail Brink. Her and her husband were newly married and were living in their Park Township home where they were found. Gail was found shot in her bedroom, Rick, in his truck.
Wyngarden was denied bail Monday and sent back to the Ottawa County jail. He told the judge he would accept a court-appointed lawyer.
Ottawa County Sheriff's Lt. Mark Bennett says information about Wyngarden "came to the forefront" in the last few months. The Ottawa County Cold Case Team moved the case into their priority spot in December 2011.
Investigators won't say why they finally settled on the Zeeland resident, but two detectives conducted approximately 200 interviews.
