HESPERIA, Mich. (WZZM) - Heavy rain and runoff from melting snow are causing problems in Newaygo and Oceana County.

Newaygo Central Dispatch tells WZZM 13 a portion of Maple Island Road washed out Tuesday evening, north of the village of Hesperia. Maple Island is the dividing line between the two counties.

Authorities say water was running over the road between 2 Mile Road and Baker Road. The area was closed to traffic while crews worked to patch a gap in the pavement.

The 13 On Target Weather Team says as much as2.1 inches of rain had fallen near Hesperia as of Tuesday evening, and another inch of rain was expected overnight.
