ALLENDALE, Mich. (WZZM) - The Chinese New Year doesn't start until February 10, but the celebration is already underway in West Michigan.

A dancing dragon helped Grand Valley State University kick off its Asian Pacific American Heritage Celebration Thursday night. The Asian New Year festival also included food and a martial arts performance.

2013 is the year of the snake. Chinese astrologers predict this year will move slower than 2012 and inner-growth and spirituality will come to the forefront.
