GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Utility crews were working through the night Wednesday to fix a water main break along the East Beltline. A pipe underneath the Beltline and Claystone Street SE burst this morning.

That section of road, near Burton Street, remained closed all day.

John Richard, MDOT spokesman says water main breaks this time of year are pretty common. "A lot of these water mains are very old and you get 30 degrees, 40 degrees, seven degree... it expands, it contracts and these things break because they're so old."

The East Beltline is expected to reopen at 7 a.m. Thursday.
