EASTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) - Investigators say inclement weather and snow-covered pavement is at least partly to blame for a school bus crash Thursday afternoon in Ionia County.

The bus with five elementary and middle school children slid through a sharp curve on Graff Road near Ionia.

The bus skidded down an embankment and landed on its side. Two of the middle school passengers suffered minor injuries.

"Bumps and bruises," explains Ionia Deputy Public Safety Director John Odette. "I feel the bus driver did a pretty good job in not rolling the bus completely over. Everybody was a little bit shaken up but in pretty good sprits. The inclement weather probably played a role."

Authorities saya nearby neighbor provided shelter for the students until police and paramedics arrived on the scene.

Because of accumulating snow in the forecast and the risk of transporting students in winter weather, dozens of schools canceled classes Friday.
