GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- ACourtland Townshipman is facing charges he tried to beat his estranged wife to death with a crowbar, wrench and a dresser drawer.

The suspect, Marshall Brabo, 65, appeared Monday in 63rd District Court in Grand Rapids Township. He is being heldon a $1 million bond.

"I won't make bond," Brabo said in court Monday.

According to court documents, Brabo and his wife are in the process of divorcing. She went to his home in 8400 block of Courtland Dr. NE Friday night to talk about their break-up. Shortly after she arrived, according to the documents, Brabo attacked her.

Deputies say the woman suffered multiple skull fractures and other broken facial bones in the attack. They say she played dead to end the attack, then Brabo took pills in an attempt to kill himself. When Brabo passed out, the woman drove away from the house for help.

Brabo told Judge Sara Smolenski he owned rental properties. The couple has two grown daughters.
