HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) - An Ottawa County assistant prosecutor said Ryan Wyngarden killed his sister and her husband in 1987 because Wyngarden didn't want anyone to know he had sexual relations with her when she was a teenager. The prosecutor also said Wyngarden was also jealous of his sister's husband.

Wyngarden was in court Wednesday for a preliminary examination on the two counts of open murder. The Zeeland man was arrested last month after his wife told a cold case investigative team that her husband admitted in 1987 to the murders.

Rick and Gail Brink were killed in their Park Township home in November 1987.

Rick Brink's mother testified Wednesday she discovered her daughter-in-law's body inside the couple's home. She went there when Brink failed to report to work. Don Heeringa, Brink's boss at the Trendway Corporation also went to the home. He testified he found Rick Brink dead in a vehicle in the driveway.

A medical examiner testified both had been shot in the head. Testimony will continue Thursday.
