TALLMADGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- One teenager is in jail and another is fighting for his life after Ottawa County investigators say a group of friends was playing Russian roulette.

The shooting happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday in the 3900 block of Leonard Road. Six teenagers, ages 16-18, were playing with a handgun in the basement of the house.

Deputies say Richard Usher, 18, shot a 16-year-old in the face with a .22 caliber gun. Usher was arraigned Thursday afternoon on attempted manslaughter charges.

The 16-year-old boy is in critical condition at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital.

Ottawa County Sheriff's Deputies say drugs and alcohol were involved in the incident. They also say this isn't the first time the teenagers played Russian roulette.

"We've discovered that this gun had been used in other horseplay incidents in prior events," says Lt. Mark Bennett.

A neighbor told WZZM 13 she's not surprised by the incident.

"I figured something like that would happen-- they're out there shooting several times a week, hours on end," says Audrey Monroe.

Richard Usher could face charges more serious than attempted manslaughter if the victim dies.
