GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- A robotics team from Grandville High School still plans to compete in Canada, even after thieves took their equipment.

The coach of 'RoboDawgs' says his team was checking into a hotel in Toronto Wednesday when someone broke into their truck and trailer and drove off with it. The team lost computers, robot parts, and all of their luggage, worth about $40,000 in total.

Police told the coach that crimes like this are rare and his team was likely in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hours after the crime, donations to the team started coming in from the Canadian community and rival robotics teams.

The Grandville company who provided the stolen trailer sent a replacement, which arrived Thursday morning filled with additional clothing and toiletries, provided by parents.

The 50 high school students still plan to compete Friday. The team will return home Sunday.
