Rockford (WZZm) -More than a thousand Special Olympics Michigan athletes, coaches and volunteers are in Rockford this weekend for the State Basketball Finals.

The games took place Friday and all day Saturday at the Rockford Freshman Center and North Rockford Middle School.

The athletes came from all over the state, including the Upper Peninsula. They also took part in a skills competition.

WZZM 13's Juliet Dragos emceed the opening ceremonies at Rockford High School Friday night. The festivities included a parade of athletes and a dance.
