PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- Family and friends of Joshua Owens gathered Monday evening to remember the young father and husband. The 24-year-old was killed early Easter morning.
Owens was celebrating his wife's birthday at Itty Bitty Bar and was walking across the street to get money from an ATM for a cab. Investigators say that's when he was hit by two cars.
Family members say it's been especially difficult for his wife Maisie and his three-year-old daughter Makayla.
"Choices matter and they have consequences and sometimes big consequences. There's a lot of people feeling this right now," said Derek Owens, Joshua's brother.
"A body laying in the street and they just kept going? And Maisie is just traumatized, Makayla is asking where daddy is-- what do you tell a three-year-old?" said Brian Brown, the victim's father-in-law.
Owens' cousins witnessed the crash on Sunday morning. Family members say she is having nightmares and unable to sleep because of the incident.
Maly Phongsavanh, 22, and Jeremie Collins, 26, have been arrested in connection to Owen's death. They are currently charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing death, which is a felony.
