WHITE RIVER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) - The public weighed in on plans to build a private driveway across Lake Michigan dune lands in Muskegon County.
The Bro-G Land Company is asking the DEQ to approve a permit to build a 1200 foot pathway across government-owned land in White River Township. The state agency has told the land owner "no" on previous requests. The latest request comes after a new state law, making it easier for developers to build on private duneland.
Dozens of concerned residents told the DEQ the driveway would damage the dune forever.
The DEQ is expected to decide on the permit in May. If approved, township leaders would also have the chance to decide on the request.
