GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) The Grand Rapids Griffins will open the playoffs next week and they want everyone downtown to know about it.

Workers Tuesday morning put in place a 40-foot wide by 25-foot high Griffins playoff sticker on the Van Andel Arena windows facing Fulton Street. The Griffins say the sticker cost $6,000. "The idea came about through a promotional staff meeting," says team vice president of business operations Tim Gortsema. "The last several years we haven't been in the playoffs forone reason or another. We wanted to really kick it off with a bang this year."

The giant sticker will stay in place throughout the Griffins' playoff run. The Griffins still do not know their first round playoff opponent. If the season ended today, Grand Rapids would be the third seed in the Western Conference and face Rochester.
