(WZZM) - The CDC released a report card that shows 2012 rates of infections from two germs increased. Infections tied to a germ linked to foods like poultry, raw milk and produce went up 14% last year.

Another germ found mostly in raw shellfish led to 43% more illnesses.

The report card is part of a collaboration of the CDC, state health departments, the department of agriculture and the FDA.

The report also found rates of a dangerous type of E.coli is back to levels seen seven years ago. And overall in 2012 more than 19,000 food related illnesses were reported. Nearly 5,000 of which resulted in hospitalization.

Every year roughly one in six people in the U. S. get sick from contaminated food.
