Our Scholarship Gala which will be held this Saturday, May 4th at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel features a keynote speaker who is a double lungs recipient. Both of her lungs were removed and totally replace with donor lungs. Ms. Ronda Passion has a story to tell. The public needs to come and hear this outstanding person share her true story.

Introduction:

It is important to become an organ and tissue donor to save the lives of many people and promote their health and wellness. Important because over 3,000 people are waiting for a life saving organ in Michigan

Nationwide that number is at least 114,000

I recently loss my fiancé on April 9, 2013 and he donated his corneas, tissue and bone marrow to the Gift of life.
Our loved ones die waiting for that special gift of life from an organ donor. Rev. Tyiska gave the "Gift of life"

Minorities are most often affected by diseases (diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity) that lead to organ failure eventually requiring a transplant.

These are just a few minority statistics provided by the Gift of Life, Michigan

Statistical data for African Americans awaiting organ transplants: 1039; kidneys, 44; Livers, 21; Heart, and 9; Lung

Statistics for Hispanics: 85; kidneys, and 6; liver transplants

These numbers are important because:

Nearly half of all patients waiting for transplants are of an ethnic minority
Nearly half of those needing kidney transplants in Michigan are African American.
25 percent of the available donor pool are minorities.

West Michigan we need your help to reduce the number of those waiting for a life saving organ

How do you sign up to become an organ donor?
