(WZZM) - The disappearance of Jessica Heeringa has drawn national attention, but our state has hundreds of other unsolved missing person cases and some of them go back years.

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System is a database that contains missing persons from around the county. Right now, Michigan has 249 missing people in the database; 128 are women, 121 are men, and 52 went missing as children.

Some of those children would not be well in to middle age today.

The oldest entry is Ida Anderson who vanished from Washtenaw county in 1958. The most recent entry, Jessica Heeringa disappeared a week ago, and Latrice Maze from Grand Rapids who was last seenMarch 19.

Grand Rapids has 12 people on the list with the oldest entry being Kathleen Bennett, who was added on July 13, 1984 and would now be 52.

Holland has two, including Fredrick Byrne. He disappeared back in February.

Donald Dietz is from the Lowell-Saranac area. He was last seen in 2007, and is the only person missing from that area.

In total West Michigan has over 31 missing people. All people with loved ones left wondering what happened.
