GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)-- The 36th Annual Fifth Third River Bank Run is Saturday, May 11 and an estimated 60,000 spectators, runners, and volunteers are expected to fill downtown Grand Rapids.
In light of the Boston Marathon Bombings, organizers say security will be more mobile and visible this year. Runners must check any extra gear at DeVos Place between 6 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
The River Bank Run is billed as the largest 25K race in the country, but there is also a 5K and 10K option for runners.
This year, there is new technology for participants. You can now use a smartphone to scan your entry code after crossing the finish line and instantly view your unofficial race time. You can also share those results on Facebook, Twitter, or by email.
The final results will be posted on theFifth Third River Bank Run website no later than 4 p.m. Saturday. The race routes are also available on the website.
The WZZM 13's Weekend Morning News will be live from the race Saturday morning from 6-8 a.m.
