FLINT, Mich. (WZZM) - Michigan U.S. Representative Dan Kildee is going to live for one week on food stamps. In a news release, Kildee says he wants to raise awareness about possible budget cuts in nutrition programs for low-income families and children.
From this Sunday June 16 through June 22 the Flint Democrat will live on an average food stamp budget which is $31.50 weekly, or $4.50 per day.
All food Kildee purchases and eats during the week will be included in the total spending. Kildee says he hopes "to gain a better understanding of how difficult it is for many of" his "constituents to avoid hunger and try to meet nutritional needs."
