ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- A Grand Rapids man was seriously hurt when he was pinned in his car after a car crash.

It happened around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at 6 Mile Road and Baumhoff Avenue NW in Alpine Township.

Investigators say a Grand Rapids man may have been reading a text message when he went through a stop sign at the intersection. His Buick Rendezvous collided with a dump truck, and both vehicles ended up off the road.

The SUV driver was pinned in his vehicle. He was freed and flown to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition.

The dump truck overturned, but the driver was able to climb out and flag down a passing vehicle for help. He suffered cuts and bruises.
