ALLENDALE, Mich. (WZZM) -- It was an emotional night Saturday as Grand Valley paid tribute to the late quarterback Cullen Finnerty.

Finnerty led the Lakers to three NCAA Division II national titles and was the winningest college quarterback with a record of 51-4.

Saturday nnight, a video tribute to Finnerty was shown at half time during the game against Truman State. A framed photo of Finnerty was also presented to family members on the field.

"We wanted to have the Finnerty family here, let them know how much Cullen's GVSU family loved him," said GVSU Athletic Director Tim Selgo. "He was just a tremendous man, father, great brother, a great son and we miss him greatly. We thought this was the appropriate place and time to recognize Cullen and pay tribute to him."

Finnerty was found dead May 28 after he disappeared during a fishing trip near Baldwin. An autopsy report showed he died from pneumonia, which was likely complicated by the use of painkillers and a chronic brain disease associated with concussions.
