Grand Rapids, Mich. (WZZM) What a donation!!

A charity in Grand Rapids found a 12,000 year-old mastodon tooth and tusk inside one of its donation boxes.

'In The Image' found the remains of the extinct animal during a pickup in July. The charity then turned the pieces over to the Grand Rapids Public Museum.
They says it's still a mystery who owned the pieces before they were donated.

A charity employee says it took him a moment to realize the fragments could be important.

Experts at The museum.. say they believe the remains were part of their collection before because the pieces were covered in lacquer.

The remains will now join the two mastodon collections at the museum.
