MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- For the first time in 60 years, a brewery is operational in the city of Muskegon.

Friday morning, the Unruly Brewing Company started making their first batch of beer. The brewery is in the basement of the Russell Block Market building and will eventually include a tap room at the market.

The head brewer say the company will focus on four beers and create smaller, unique batches from time to time. The first one is dedicated to a beer made in Muskegon more than a decade ago.

"Right now we are brewing a basic pale ale and we are calling it Newmeister Pale Ale. The reason for that name is the first brewery on record in Muskegon was Frederick Newmeister," explained Unruly Brewing Company head brewer, Eric Hoffman.

The brewery will keep storing beer for the next few weeks until there is enough to open the tap room and begin serving customers.
