BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- Plans to build a Tanger Outlet Mall in southern Kent County will move forward.

Monday night the planning commission recommended a zoning change to allow the 80-store development to move in. It now goes to the township board of trustees for final approval.

Tanger Outlets, based of out Greensboro, NC, wants to build the outlet mall at U.S. 131 and 84th Street SW. Tanger has other locations in Howell and West Branch, Michigan.

The development is expected to bring800 jobs to the area,and additional tax revenue. It's estimated 4-millionpeople will visit every year.

Many residents at Monday night's meeting opposed the development, voicing concerns over traffic and congestion. A small number of people did say they favored the project.

Carl Close is the construction manager for Tanger Outlets. "We are not one of the developers that says its either our way or the highway. We work with the community to make sure our center fits into the local community."

The Byron Township Trustees will consider the outlet mall recommendation at their next meeting in a few weeks.

Tanger wants to start construction as soon as possible and have the outlet center open by late 2015.
