NEW YORK (WZZM) -- A big change on Good Morning America goes into effect Thursday.
Wednesday morning was Sam Champion's last day on GMA; he's headed to The Weather Channel to anchor its morning show. Champion has been just one of the reasons Good Morning America unseated NBC's Today Show as the top-rated network morning show.

Champion's departure means Rockford High School graduate, Ginger Zee takes over as the main meteorologist on Good Morning America. She spoke with WZZM 13 and reflected on her broadcasting career.
Q: As hard as you work, did you ever imagine this happening at such a young age?
A: "No! (laughs) You know, some people will work their entire lives and at some point say maybe 'that's not the goal for me.' I have just been so fortunate this whole way, and not to say that I haven't worked hard. There were so many times where I was in Flint, Michigan and I was seriously eating a bean burrito, just one every day because it was 79 cents and that's all I could afford."
After starting her career in Flint, Zee moved to Grand Rapids, and then Chicago, before her current position in New York.
