KENTWOOD, Mich. (WZZM) -- You've probably seen a few cars stuck in the snow this winter.

If you are one of the unfortunate ones, there are steps to take before you call the tow truck. Brett Schunk with Brett and Chuck's Tire in Kentwood has the following tips:

--Carry a shovel in your car to clear snow and create a path for your car. It can also be used to clear your tailpipe.

--Press the brakes slightly to decrease spinning on the wheel, that should get both wheels working to help your vehicle out of the snow.

--In an icy situation, slide a car mat under a wheel to give it more traction.

--Kitty litter does the job too and adds weight to the vehicle.

--Have snow tires installed to increase your vehicle's traction in slick road conditions.
