KENTWOOD, Mich. (WZZM) -- A major manufacturer is shutting down its operations in West Michigan and laying off 260 employees.

ConAgra Foods Inc. announced Tuesday afternoon it will close its plant located at 4490 44th Street SE in July 2014.

The Kentwood plant makes energy bars and was only operating at 30 percent capacity, according to Kentwood Mayor Stephen Kepley.

ConAgra Foods has other plants in Minnesota and California and the company says it "is committed to providing benefits and services that will help employees transition from the company or to other manufacturing plants within the company.

Research and development employees will remain at the Kentwoodplant until 2015.
